Our Ethical Standards & Listing Criteria

At Eat Plants & Travel, our mission is to bring the vegan world closer together. We built this platform so that conscious consumers can eat, sleep, and explore without ever having to compromise their values.

To maintain that trust, we do not auto-approve listings. Every business on our platform is hand-reviewed to ensure it meets our strict ethical criteria. We are proudly uncompromising, and we only partner with businesses that share our vision for a kinder, more sustainable world.

Before applying to join the Eat Plants & Travel directory, please review our core standards below.

1. The 100% Plant-Based Promise

Our users come to us so they can order off the menu or book a room without asking a dozen questions. Therefore, to be listed on our platform, the core offering you are promoting must be 100% vegan.

  • For Restaurants & Cafes: Your entire kitchen and menu must be free of meat, dairy, eggs, honey, and all other animal-derived ingredients. We do not list venues that simply have a "vegan menu" but serve animal products on the premises.

  • For Stays & Hotels: The food and beverage offerings on-site must be exclusively vegan. Furthermore, the rooms and communal areas must be free of animal products (e.g., no leather furniture, no down-feather bedding, and cruelty-free toiletries).

  • For Experiences: The experience must not involve the exploitation, use, or consumption of animals in any capacity.

2. Cruelty-Free Operations

We look beyond just the ingredients on the plate. We expect our partners to prioritise cruelty-free practices in their day-to-day operations. This includes:

  • Sourcing cruelty-free, un-tested on animals cleaning products.

  • Ensuring wines, beers, and spirits served on-site are not filtered using animal byproducts (like isinglass or gelatin).

  • Never using or selling products that rely on animal testing.

3. Sustainability & Environmental Impact

Veganism and environmentalism go hand in hand. While we know perfection is difficult, we actively look to champion businesses that are making a conscious effort to minimize their footprint. We prioritize partners who:

  • Actively reduce or eliminate single-use plastics.

  • Focus on locally sourced, seasonal, and organic ingredients to reduce food miles.

  • Implement strong recycling, composting, and food-waste reduction programs.

4. Human Rights & Fair Labor

Ethical consumerism extends to how we treat human beings. Eat Plants & Travel stands firmly against exploitation of any kind. We require our partners to:

  • Pay their staff fair, livable wages.

  • Provide a safe, inclusive, and respectful working environment free from discrimination, harassment, or prejudice.

  • Ensure their supply chains do not rely on forced or exploitative labor.

5. Transparency & Integrity

We expect honesty from our partners. If you accidentally use an ingredient that you later discover is not vegan, or if your supplier changes a formula, we expect you to address it immediately and transparently. We are a community built on trust, and intentional greenwashing or "vegan-washing" will result in immediate removal from the platform.

Our Vetting Process

When you submit your business for a listing, our team manually reviews your website, social media presence, and public reviews to ensure compliance with these standards. We may reach out to you directly to ask clarifying questions about your sourcing or operations.

Community Accountability: Our community is our strongest asset. If a user reports that a listed business is violating our Code of Ethics, we will temporarily suspend the listing while we investigate. Eat Plants & Travel reserves the right to reject or remove any listing, at any time, that no longer aligns with our core values.
